Rethinking How To Frame Past Trauma

All of us will have 5-7 traumatic events in our life time.

How well equipped are you to deal with trauma so it doesn’t define your life?

In this video, I take a look at some of the things I’m learning about trauma these days. I share the following quotes and reflect on them from my experience and journey so far.

The stories of our lives, far from being fixed narratives, are under constant revision. We are all able to color our past either happy or sad. -- Gordon Livingston

Your past is not fixed, but flexible. Your view of your own past actually evolves over time, even imperceptibly. -- Benjamin Hardy

The past is nothing more than the meaning you ascribe to it. Traumatic experiences can be changed. They are not fixed. -- Benjamin Hardy

Trauma occurs when a person is avoiding and resenting their past, rather than approaching and transforming their past. -- Simmen-Janevski

Questions to Ponder

  • What has been your experience with trauma?

  • How do you view your past traumatic events?

  • What might it mean to approach and transform your past instead of avoid and resent it?
